Garden of Delight

Come step into my garden

The fairy beckoned me

I promise you a portion

Of life’s elusive peace

My peace was lacking

That was true

And not much else

Had I to lose

So mincing, I agreed to follow

This wayward fairy to her hallow

In search of peace and other things

I knocked hard on fate’s unyielding ring

She took me gently by the hand

And showed me wonders in her land

Spectacles of color, light & tone

Textures wrapped up in ethereal glow

Variety was plenty there

Beauty also made her fare

Glory walked among the woods

Eager to unveil his goods

Sweet nectar dripped from every flower

As bees hummed by upon the hour

Servicing their dainty platters

Searching for the decadent splatter

Birds there were in flocks anew

Singing songs once old, twice used

Dancing through boughs & hedges fair

Calling their mates to pursue with flair

Water courses through delicate groves

Winding her course of unhurried mode

Bubbling, laughing, crying “come play”

To every fair thing which passes her way

I find myself shocked that such places exist

Wondering at the purity and bliss

How could I leave a place such as this?

The fairy tells me there’s something I’ve missed

Each day brings the change to laugh and to sing

To savor the beauty around me each spring

That it is my choice to ignore these sights

Sequester my soul far from fields of delight

For delight is a choice in the heart of each child

That adulthood over heavy years has long since defiled

The way back to wonder, she tells me, is free

All I must do is make delight a home in me
